However, while many cameras allow you to capture eye-catching images with their automatic ‘point and shoot’ mode, knowledge of exposure, aperture, shutterspeed, manual focus and other manual camera settings will help you create the award winning shots.
While course content varies from school to school, during a typical 10 week course for beginners, you’re likely to learn the basics of composing photos; how to use each of the camera settings in manual mode; what exposure, aperture, shutterspeed and ISO are and why they are important; and how to upload your images to a computer.
You will also be introduced to photo editing and take part in one or more practical shooting sessions.
An advanced digital photography course is like to go into more detail on the camera’s settings in more detail, introduce you to nighttime and black and white photography, and teach you how to make critical edits to your final shot.
