Patchwork Quilting classes for adults in Dublin and Meath

Patchwork Quilting, as the name suggests, is a form of needlework most often used to make quilts. It is, however, also a great way of making clothing, cushions, bags, wall-hangings, table runners and other decorative and practical items.

It can be combined with other forms of needlework, including embroidery and applique, to creative beautiful fabric items for a range of occasions.

Patchwork is the stitching together of carefully measured and cut geometric shapes and patterns to create a larger, colour-coordinated design.

Quilting is the decorative stitching – done by machine or hand – used to keep the layers of fabric and batting together, and patchwork items are often as attractive on the back as they are on the front.

Patchwork is a great way of using up odd ends of fabric or combining old ties, shirts or baby clothes into imaginative and attractive keepsakes and heirlooms.

And the process isn’t just about skill and creative expression – patchwork is a very sociable and bonding activity, and many who come to classes at our member schools, return term after term not just for tutoring and guidance, but to be among friends!

You don’t need any sewing or patchwork skills to sign up for a beginner’s class. You will learn all the basics skills and techniques required, right from use of the sewing machine to ironing your finished pieces.

Over the course of a 10 week course you should expect to create a quilt using basic patterns.
