Providing access to services and information 24/7, the internet can enrich and empower the lives of people. Those who can access the internet can benefit from it’s many advantages, including saving money, saving time, connection/staying in touch with family and friends, being entertained, and learning and being educated.
This course is available to anyone who has not previously engaged with the internet. Target groups include individuals over 45, small business owners, farmers, individuals with disabilities, the unemployed, and disadvantaged groups.
Small groups of adults (maximum 10 people) attend 10 hours of free training (usually five two-hour sessions over five consecutive weeks), during which they will learn the skills they need to use and enjoy the many benefits of being online. Topics covered include:
Introduction to the internet • Sending and receiving emails • Internet safety • Online government services (passport applications, motor tax renewals, agricultural services, etc) • Online banking • Social media (Skype, Twitter, Facebook, etc) • Online shipping • Other useful apps (traffic, news, weather, etc)
You’ll find further information on the Digital Skills for Citizens initiative on the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment website.
