Join a DIY course and start to feel useful around the house
DIY, or Do It Yourself, is the method of modifying, repairing or building things without the direct aid of professionals or experts, and generally refers to home improvement and maintenance tasks such as hanging pictures and curtain poles, changing light bulbs and fuses, tiling small areas of wall or floor, constructing and installing shelving units, painting and decorating, and much more.
Courses typically include some demonstration, and as much hands-on practice as possible, as you learn how to use hand and power tools and achieve a level of confidence required to carry out your own DIY projects. Topics covered vary from school to school but by the end of a typical 8 or 10 week course you should have the skills to successful complete a range of basic tiling, carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing tasks around the home.
